The downturn in the world’s economy is not all doom and gloom. It may be a difficult time for those businesses that supply high end unnecessary goods, such as brand new cars and fancy shoes but there are some, such as the used car dealer, who will benefit from this turn of events. People can no longer afford new cars and the production and sales of new cars has reduced over the last year and more drastically over the last three months.
Consumers have lost faith in the monetary system given its current state and there is also a distinct lack of job security. Thanks to this, they are looking to still keep a reliable vehicle on the road out of necessity but they know that that reliability doesn’t have to come with the price tag of a new car.
A vehicle purchased from a used car dealer will come without the ‘running in’ problems of a new car, it will be accompanied by a vastly different price tag but it will come with a guarantee of sorts so that the driver knows they have a car to rely on and that it will be that way for some time to come.
The used car dealer is in an excellent position to offer cars of all shapes and sizes to the public and to companies looking for replacement fleet cars and they can offer much better deals than the new car manufacturers can at the moment.
So, the picture for used car dealers at the moment is fairly rosy. There are, no doubt, many negatives in this whole economic situation but to try and see the silver lining to all this, it does create a situation that is better for some businesses. It means they have less competition for a start. With so many businesses going under there will be all those fleet cars back out on the market and used car dealers will have their fill of stock. As consumers, we will also have more choice and with such a steady supply, prices should be that bit cheaper.
Many people are looking for smaller cars at the moment as they are cheaper on fuel and tax. The ex-fleet cars are not usually of this calibre but, at least for a while, this may be outweighed by the fact that they are so much cheaper than a brand new car.
The Jaguar plant have reduced production of their cars and the Ford Transit plant in Southampton have been put on a four day week until further notice. car parts firm, LSUK, have also gone into administration showing that the motoring industry as a whole is suffering at the hands of the credit crunch but this is not the first and certainly won’t be the last recession that the country sees. There is a struggle ahead which many people will lose financially. However, many people will survive it, many people will scrape through it and at the end of the day it will do us good to remember how important the simple things in life are, rather than money.
